One of the world's greatest shark dive experiences!
For many, diving with Great White Sharks is the ultimate in diving experiences.
This industry is mature in the Cape now, with very experienced operators offering
thrilling yet safe encounters with these beautiful creatures. A number of licenses are
issued to operators in False Bay, Gannsbaii and Mossel Bay and we will use whichever one best fits
the requirements of the tour.
The operators all work in a similar way. Chum (fish oils and carcasses) is put into the water at the
locations where the sharks are most regularly encountered. Once the sharks are around the boat,
a specially designed shark cage that floats at the surface, is lowered into the water.
Divers then enter the cage, waiting for the shark to approach closer. Divers are never more
than 1 meter below the surface.
Once in the diving cage, they breath through the "hooker system" with
air supplied from the surface on an extended hose or just taking and holding their breath.
According to our experience this is the method that works best, providing
the safest and most comfortable dive. Experiences are maximised within the
constraints of time, weather and, of course, the sharks themselves - these are wild animals, after all!
The operators that we charter are committed to being eco-friendly and refrain from using
anything other than natural products to attract the sharks. Total care is taken when
handling the sharks, ensuring that they are not harmed or unduly disturbed in any way.
They also collect scientific data on the size, sex, scar markings and times that sharks
are sighted.
